  Professor Abbas Shoulaie was born in Isfahan and spent primary and high school in this city. He obtained his B.Sc. at Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST). In spite of a good proposal from the cement industrial and other prominent industrial opportunities from Tehran and Kerman , Professor Shoulaie began working at IUST due to his interest in scientific issues. Shortly after, he went to France to continue his education, and obtained his PhD in 1984.

  After returning from France in 1984, he accepted responsibility of the Power Electronic Laboratory at IUST.

  He accepted the management of the "Power Electronic Laboratory" in 1983, and was appointed dean to the Electrical Engineering Department a year later. Also, in 1985, again he was appointed the dean of Electrical Engineering Department, where he established M.S. ages, Finally, in 1986, he became chief of "Iran University of Science and Technology". In 1987, he renounced this responsibility and continued research in the Electrical Engineering Department. In the same year, he accepted the responsibility of M.S. & PHD ages, and in 1980, PHD students were admitted. In 1980, he established the "Research laboratory" in the current location.

  In 1996, he was once again appointed dean to the Electrical Engineering Faculty. In 1998, the national HVDC project was accepted by the country's National Research Council for which Dr. Shoulaie moderated the project. With God's favor and good faith of honorable and responsible people of  the country, a land with three hundred hectare area was provided for the university for the national project's research and study.

  In November 2002, he became full professor. He has translated two books. His translated book entitled "Power Electronics" was chosen as a selected book in year 1998. In 1996, he won the Kharazmi International Festival award for one of his projects. He has around 100 papers in Iranian and foreign Journals and conference proceedings.
