The 5th Rectors’ Forum for Top Iranian and Russian Universities held virtually
 
The 5th Rectors’ Forum for Top Iranian and Russian Universities held virtually on July 7.2020
This is the 5th of the series of Forums held by Iran and Russia top universities since 2015. These events held alternatively by University of Tehran and Lomonosov Moscow State University each year.
Dr. Mansour Gholami, Minister of Science, Research and Technology of Iran and Dr. Valery Mikolaevich Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russian Federation, as well as Ambassadors of the two countries, and Senior Advisor to I.R. Iran Foreign Minster attended this virtual meeting.
At the beginning of the session the Ministers and Ambassadors of Iran and Russia presented comments on the higher education policies between the two countries and stressed the expanding of the cooperation despite the condition resulted by covide-19 pandemic. Then rectors of the Lomonosov Moscow State University and University of Tehran mentioned the four previous forums and their achievements. Rector of the Lomonosov Moscow State University stressed the cooperation with the Association of the State Universities of Caspian Sea Region Countries and the Association of the Universities of Eurasia that was welcomed by many of the attendees.
In this session that Prof. Jabbarali Zakeri, Chancellor of IUST, attended as presenter, the rectors of two countries presented reports on their cooperation and mentioned the collaboration grounds.
The top universities from Iran and Russian that attended the event were including Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran University, Sharif University of Technology, Shahid Beheshti University, Allameh Tabataba'i University, Iran University of Medical Sciences, K.N. Toosi University of Technology from Iran and Lomonosov Moscow State University, Kazan (Volga region) Federal University, Dagestan State University, Astrakhan State University, Southern Federal University, North Ossetian State University after K. L. Khetagurov, Russian New University and Association of non-state universities of Russia.
Since 2015 four joint forums with the presence of the university rectors and delegations from Iran and Russia were held alternatively in University of Tehran and Lomonosov Moscow State University. The achievements are signing an MoU on establishing an association of the universities of Iran and Russian, establishing the permanent secretariat of the association of the universities of Iran and Russian in the Lomonosov Moscow State University and University of Tehran, applying the two parties capabilities for development of science and technology, and cooperation in supplying demands and finding solution for challenges in the two countries by developing the inter- university network and joining it to the technical sections.
Other subjects that agreed upon and accomplished in the four forums are signing of four joint statement emphasizing expanding of the academic relationship between the two countries, continuation of the joint sessions alternatively in the two countries, signing of several cooperation documents between the universities of the two countries on holding joint educational courses, workshops, joint research projects, exchange of students and faculty members, joint publishing, cooperation in the fields such as aerospace, mathematics, medicine, biology, laboratory sciences, Education of Russian and Persian languages, Russian and Iran studies, mathematical sciences, etc.

Outstanding improve of IUST ranking among 100 top Asian Universities in Times Ranking System
 
According to the Times Higher Education Ranking System for top Asian universities in 2020, Iran University of Science and Technology ranked among five top Iranian universities in Asia. With a 20- step upgrade, IUST reached rank 87 in 2020 from 107 in 2019. A number of 489 Asian universities were ranked in 2020 by Times Higher Education Ranking System.

IUST distinguished as top university for international activities

Iran University of Science and Technology was distinguished as the top univeristy among the outstanding universities in Iran for its international activities in 2019.

In a virtual session held on May 18, 2020 in the Center for Scientific International Cooperation in the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology with the presense of Dr. Gholami, Minister of Science, Research and Technology, Dr. Salar Amoli, Acting Minister for International Scientific Cooperation, and presidents and vice presidents for international affairs of a number of Iranian Universities the top universities active in international activities were appreciated.

IUST Chancellor Prof. Zakeri presented a report on the international activities of the university and mentioned the international strategies and measures of IUST. This included the priorities given to the international activities in the university’s strategic progrms, 2+2 cooperation programs with national and international industries and universities, establishing the IUST Internatioan Academy, efforts undertaken for operation of the international MOUs, planning for membership and effective cooperation in the specialized international organizations, undertaking the international academic activities in the national level such as IUST role as Iranian Leading House for Academic Cooperation with Germany, and undertaking programs for Iranian universities’ cooperation in international activities.

 

400 international papers that achieved international grants, 296 projects with the foreign and Iranian scholars abroad, and presentment in the recognized international ranking systems are of the measures that were considered as IUST eminent international activities.

Allameh Tabataba’i University, University of Guilan, National Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, and Yazd Science Technology Park were also appreciated for their international activities.

The 5th Biennial International Conference on Experimental Solid Mechanics (X-Mech 2020)
The 5th Biennial International Conference on Experimental Solid Mechanics held at Iran University of Science and Technology on Feb. 18-19, 2020. The Conference was organized by the Center of Excellence in Experimental Solid Mechanics and Dynamics affiliated to the School of Mechanical Engineering of IUST.
The objective of the conference was to establish a forum for exchanging the ideas in the field of experimental solid mechanics. The focus of the Conference is on different aspects of the state-of- the- art in experimental solid mechanics.
The First International Conference on Experimental Solid Mechanics and Dynamics (X-Mech 2012) held in the School of Mechanical Engineering. The Conference successfully brought together both engineers and theoretical methods/approaches to address the experimental researches in Solid Mechanics.
The Conference focused on the state-of –the- art in automotive, aerospace, piping, marine and civil structures, bio-composites, and micro and nano- composites.
Scholars from Sahand University of Technology and Imperial College London attended the Conference as keynote speakers.

The joint research project between IUST and Monash University accomplished successfully

A joint research project between Iran University of Science and Technology and Monash University started since 2016 for development of international scientific cooperation between the two universities and with the support and coordination of vice chancellery for international affairs at IUST.
The project was accomplished successfully after four years of joint cooperation among faculty members and students of the two universities.
The project was defined in the framework of a DECRA project and was focused on the application of nano and micro materials in the three dimensional printing of concrete.
Some of the achievements of the first project in this framework are:
Printing of more than 10 scientific papers in authentic journals Q1, including Nature Communication, with the joint cooperation of authors form IUST and Australian Universities.
Granting 3 scholarships, each for 6 months, for sabbatical leaves of IUST students through the resources of the project.
Establishing and equipping the nano-civil lab. in the IUST School of Civil Engineering using the financial resources of the project and financial support of IUST.
Inviting distinguished and top ranked scholars, like Prof. Behrokh Khoshnevis, for presenting speeches and exchanging ideas with the audiences at IUST.
