Our mission is to attain first place in economic, scientific and technological enterprises of Southwest Asia. Knowledge production and its conversion to wealth will only be possible when institutional autonomy, scientific freedom, available funding, and the essence of research are performed outside of all existing bureaucracies. Accordingly, the Center of Excellence in Pavement Management, Transportation and Safety was founded on the basis of section ه article 15 of the Islamic Republic’s five year plan, which emphasize the expansion of excellence centers. Transportation has always been critical in the shaping of societies and economic developments. Today, communication channels are the foundations of economy, and everlasting expansion is reliant on quick and safe transportation, possible only when conducted on an orderly and reasonable foundation. It is under this apparition that the science of transportation can succeed. Every year a large budget is set aside for the expansion and improvement of transportation in the country, and despite the many efforts, the functioning of transportation systems has a long way to attain standard levels.
Obstacles:
-An imbalance between supply and demand, especially in transportation within the city, which can result in traffic congestion, an increase in time loss, and a loss of gas,
-An increase in accidents and losses related to the accidents
-Low-life asphalt pavements -Huge annual costs for the maintenance and repair of asphalt pavements
-Lack of up-to-date knowledge on human resources, executive branch
The following three points may explain the reasons for such problems:
1) Lack of physical space for testing
2) Lack of financial resources or investment in obtaining the necessary equipment for research and scientific research
3) The number of professors and researchers who have experience or interest in laboratory and field research are very few
A scientific and proper engineering vision can enhance or diminish such factors. Currently there are specialized professors and specialists in the fields of transportation that are working toward the betterment of the situation. Nonetheless, there is a need to develop suitable platforms to further help this matter. The creation of the Center of Excellence for Pavement Management Transportation can help improve the current platform. Luckily, the Centre of Excellence for Pavement Management, Transportation and Safety's suitable physical space, well facilitated laboratory, and experienced researchers have brought about strong and valuable strengths to the Iran University of Science and Technology School of Civil Engineering, which can serve as effective tools in the production of a platform for the expansion of applied fundamental research and development across the country.
