The Center of Excellence in Railway Transportation (CERT) was established in 2011 at Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) as a response to the national railway development plans in Iran. 

 The CERT mission is to provide state of the art techniques in different disciplines of the railway engineering including: Railway Transportation Engineering, Railway Rolling Stock, Railway Track & Structures, Electric Railways, Railway Safety and Railway Control and Signaling. CERT envisions itself as the country's scientific reference in Railway Engineering. This center is working with internationally contributed professors as well as their postgraduate students and fellows to promote the country's best railway sciences. CERT has close scientific collaborations with leading railway research centers and schools around the world. Unique research laboratories including: Ground Vibration, Railway Noise and Vibration, High-Speed Railway Structural Analysis, High-Speed Train Aerodynamics, Advanced Railway Control Systems and also high-speed computational facilities provide the research platform for CERT activities. More than 100 publications in international journals and conference papers as well as technical and industrial reports are reported in the CERT annual report.
