School of Railway Engineering

  Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST)

    The School of Railway Engineering (SRE) was established in 1997 at Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) as a positive answer to the public interests and railway Industrial development plans in Iran. This outstanding achievement was constituted under the financial support of the Railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

  SRE started its educational programs from 1997 with 100 students, admitted via the Iran national university entrance exam, in three sub-disciplines: Railway Transportation Engineering, Railway Rolling Stock Engineering, and Railway Track & Structures Engineering. SRE also commenced its first MSc program in “Electric Railways Engineering" from 2001. By now, SRE offers the following MSc programs: Railway Transportation Engineering, Railway Rolling Stock, Engineering Railway Track & Structures Engineering, Electric Railways Engineering (MSc program only), Railway Safety Engineering (MSc program only), Railway Control and Signaling.

  So far, the school has admitted 948 students  from whom  323 students graduated.  In addition, SRE is offering  Ph.D. programs in some of the above mentioned fields of study .

  On the other hand, SRE has close scientific collaborations with the leading railway research and educational departments around the world, including: Dresden Technical University in Germany, Sheffield University in the UK, Beijing Jiaotong University in China, Dnepropetrovsky in Ukraine, Berlin Technical University in Germany and Concordia University in Canada.

  Currently, the academic staff includes 23 full-time professors, and the school benefits form the cooperation of several part-time professors and experts from other Iranian universities and international institutions.
